St Andrew's Cippenham - Sharing Life

Centred in God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit

As the Anglican community, we are centred by our services, teaching, our children's work, ecumenical study groups, shared prayers, Burnham Abbey Prayer Group, ecumenical links, and by the way in which we try to emulate a Triune community by our life together.

We embrace difference, and value each person as a distinct individual with all the potential they have as members of the Body.   Because this matters to God, it matter to us.   The sacraments, worship, prayer, learning and outreach are indivisible from the centre of our lives.

We give active and substantial contributions of time and talents to the Burnham Lighthouse project.   Apart from being a shared church with our Catholic friends, we are also members of Churches Together in Slough Area, and thus are able to explore with many other Christian communities our calling and congruities.   We hold Diocesan and Deanery offices, being convinced that Church is more than just a local expression in its call to service

Orientated Towards The World and it's Needs

Our move beyond a 'local expression' of Church extends out into the world. Our planned Christian giving is to many organisations , here and abroad.   There are also ad hoc appeals.   Our Wednesday Group has speakers on current issues.

We encourage and organise Christian Aid, USPG and Children's Society occasions.

We share in the 'Furniture Mart' - which provides help for the less well off; an essential outreach opportunity.

We hold memberships in local community, residents groups.   We are an information point for Domestic abuse and the WRVS emergency planning response team.   We have given land for the provision of a bus shelter, and have recently set up a twice a week 'The Open Door' coffee shop open to all.

We share charitable and mission giving with our Catholic friends through the 'London and Slough Runs'.   MATA (a South African HIV/AIDS society).   All of these initiatives gain strength through ecumenical co-operation.

Connecting to People, both their Communities and their Cultures in new ways.

There is an immense interest in the local community, and we have taken a number of actions to help including taking membership of community and residents groups.   This help is also offered via the availability of the physical building, and through the groups and activities run by church members and others.   'Poppets', Mother & Toddler group which meets every Friday in term time is very popular.   The Koran classes are an example of our Lord's hospitality to all peoples.   We host the Slough Contact Centre, which gives estranged families a safe environment to meet absent parents.

The Building is available to all.   Whilst retaining its distinctive Christian presence with the open church at the heart of the building.   We have a presence at the Community Forum, and provide a community carol service annually.   A 'Garden', lovingly nurtured by both communities is freely available to the community that enables all comers to enjoy quiet space in a busy place.

Serious about Christian Discipleship.

We undertake training with our own Pastoral Care and Emmaus courses, also local and diocesan courses.   Baptism preparation (Godly Play), Women's Lives, the Wednesday Group - these dealing with 'faith and everyday life' all encourage everyone to take an active part in the life of the church.

To help us, there are pilgrimages, made over many years to most of the cathedrals in the country, and there are Quiet Days, often held at Burnham Abbey, a place of pilgrimage in itself.   Growing through Sacraments and scripture is vital to our life.

Mentoring each other and generally 'gossiping the gospel we are sharing those things that the Lord has made known to us and as the family of the church, help each other to grow and to mature in his service.   Our mission statement comes from the Lord.

Love God and Love Your Neighbour as Yourself

A Prayer for Sharing Life

Gracious God, for the gift of life with all its struggle and great opportunity. We/I give you thanks.

For Jesus the life-giver in whom we have life with you, now and forever. We/I give you thanks.

For the Holy Spirit making us alive with his life. We/I give you thanks.

Open me to that Spirit and renew your Church that we may share your life with others.

Draw them into your love and transform the world.
